SCNetwork Transition Networking Group

SCNetwork has a networking group for members undergoing career transition seeking work/their next opportunity.  This is a service made possible by our sponsoring organizations who provide the facilitators, meeting place, and refreshments.  This service started June 2006 when the sponsor was KWA.  Since July 2007, the transition networking group has been supported by another one of SCNetwork's sponsors, Verity International.

Bob Boyd is the current leader and facilitator of the program.  To join the group and/or to find out more information, contact Bob at (905) 752-2222 or 1-877-623-2396 or reach him via email at bboyd@verityintl.com.

Detailed description of Transition Networking Group

Objective:

To support SCNetwork members undergoing career transition in their job search by offering regular facilitated networking meetings.

Parameters:
  • In addition to members without career transition services, those with such services are also invited to participate.
  • The group must be large enough on an ongoing basis to be effective as a group and not to evolve into one-to-one support.
  • Discussions are focused on the activity of the participants themselves: asked to share (keeping details confidential as they felt they needed to) what they had been up to in the marketplace
    • focusing on their process, what had worked, what hadn’t, what they had learned, opportunities they had encountered they were not interested in that others might be, and
    • what they are planning for the following period, particularly people or organizations they are trying to contact that someone else in the group might help them with.
  • Though positioned as networking itself (vs. a seminar about networking), the process will generate topics in regard to both the basics and fine points of networking to which the facilitator (and others in the group) will offer specific advice.
